Voice of the Future
News Story from 1st Apr 2025

The 2025 Voice of the Future event took place virtually on 17 March, offering young scientists and engineers the chance to question key political figures. This annual event, normally held in Westminster, was organised by the Royal Society of Biology on behalf of the science and engineering community. The event reverses the usual format of a Parliamentary Select Committee, giving a panel of early career scientists the opportunity to question MPs and peers on issues that matter to them.

This is the second time that SRP has taken part in this event and we were delighted to have one of our questions accepted for the event. Our participant and SRP RGG member, Cathy Nortey (AWE) asked; "The Society for Radiological Protection (SRP) recognises the potential benefits of Artificial Intelligence across all radiological protection sectors, including industry, higher education and medical, with the standardisation, harmonisation and efficiencies AI can bring to everyday tasks. SRP is keen to support the implementation of international best practice within the UK. How can the Society and other learned professional societies, assist with the implementation of AI in the UK and internationally?” Lord Drayson, member of the Lords Select Committee for Science and Technology, chose to respond, saying; “Given the rapidity of the pace at which generative AI is developing, all learned Societies have a vital role to play in this involvement.” Read further details about the event. We hope to circulate a link to a recording of the event once it’s available.
